Thomas Gibbons was the mayor of Savannah, GA and insisted on rebuilding each building with bricks to withstand anything that was thrown at it, like fires and storms. In 1943 the building was purchased by Frank C. Mathews for his seafood restaurant. The building, as well as, the fish on the sign are still there!
