The 22-room Simpson Hotel, built in the 1920’s, was the first fireproof hotel built in central Florida. Simpson was approached by a woman asking him to build a fireproof hotel so she and her friends could have a safe place to stay while visiting Florida. She gave him $10,000 for the project.
